Heya. Hoping to run something by you please. It concerns my wisdom tooth. The issue I am haiving is that it starts pushing through, I know because I can feel some pain around that area and it radiates out into my face. Just as I am about to see a dentist the pain stops so I cancel. Then weeks later it starts again. Is there something wrong with this tooth. Why isn’t it coming through, coud it be stuck on something. I dunno if I am piutting myself at risk by cancelling each time. Cant decide whether this is even an issue, nevermind an emergency issue??? Can you advise me please.

Hello,
Thank you for your post.
Often when wisdom teeth are growing through it can happen in stages. A patient may feel discomfort from a wisdom tooth periodically as it grows through in small spurts. Sometimes it can take years for the wisdom tooth to erupt, even though a person has felt it coming through for quite some time. However, in other cases, the discomfort can signify there is a problem, which often increases in discomfort the longer it continues. There is a possibility if could be hindered by overcrowding and this could cause it to grow through at an awkward angle (impacted) or cause infection due to the person not being able to clean the area properly, because of an abscess forming, or a variety of other reasons. With this in mind, I would say it is always best to get these things checked out just to be on the safe side. It could be growing through perfectly normally, however, until you have had this checked by a professional it is impossible for you to know. The last thing you want to do is ignore a troublesome wisdom tooth for it only to get worse, which it will! Perhaps you don’t need an emergency appointment, but I would let your dental clinic advise you on that. Best of luck to you.
