Catch 22 at the moment for me and I am wanting to discuss my options with someone who knows what they are talking about. You see my teeth have been pretty bad (wonky and crooked) and I did not have a brace when I was young, although I really wish I had now. So as a thirty something I think that a full on metal brace would really be an eyesore. I am too old to have a mouth full of metal I am sure you can agree or at least sympathise. So I want to explore whether there are any other options available to me to get my teeth straightened without the metal. Its not something that I know much about I am afraid. Can you explain or enlighten me? Thank you.

Hello,
Thank you for your post.
There are a number of discreet options that you may want to explore further and rest assured that you are not alone. There are many people in the same situation as you, that want to have straighter teeth but do not want the aesthetics of a metal brace. Therefore, there are different treatments available that would solve this issue for you. One of the most popular options for practically invisible straightening is the Invisalign clear aligner. This clips in and out, is made from clear plastic, and allows you to maintain your dental hygiene as you normally would. If you were wanting to go for a fixed option, then there is a Six Month Smile brace. This replaces the metal fixtures, fittings, and wires with plastic and/or ceramic so that they blend in with the colour of your teeth. Both of these options could straighten your teeth in as little as six months (if you have mild to moderate occlusions). However, more complex issues could take up to eighteen months. If you book in for a consultation an orthodontist or Invisalign dentist will talk you through your options and show you some examples. Best of luck to you.
