I went to see this emergency dentist that was not at my own clinic. I have been suffering on and off with a tooth of mine for about 6 months and my dentist has been treating it. The problem flared up real bad over the weekend so I was forced to seek help from a clinic that I would not normally go to as they were the only place open late on a Saturday night and did not want to wait until Sunday or Monday with the pain I was in. At that point I would have let anyone near my teeth if the pain was going to stop. Now it is Thursday and the tooth does not seem right. The pain is returning and I have noticed that the radius of this pain has extended further than it was initially. I think this dentist has made matters worse. What am I to do?

Hello,
Thank you for your post.
The nature of an issue like this is that it can sometimes become worse through no one’s fault. It is unlikely that the dentist has made it worse, but rather not made it better either and the pain has intensified. Root canal treatments can be notoriously difficult to ensure that all the infection is cleared. Plus, it may be that the infection had already spread but this was not picked up on. I would recommend that you seek advice and treatment from your own dentist in the first instance as they know the situation with your treatment. Alternatively, another emergency dentist will be able to help you. It may also be wise to have the treatment performed under a dental microscope so that removal of the infection is more accurate. If the issue has spread into the gum area, then a course of antibiotics could be all that is needed to get this under control. In the meantime, some over the counter painkillers will help you to manage the pain. Just ensure that you are able to take these before doing so. A pharmacy could clarify this for you. Best of luck to you.
