Been suffering with a sensitive tooth for some time, but its weird because its exactly that one tooth. None of the others seem to be be a problem to me. I have commented in this partcilat forum because I have read about sensitive teeth being linked to root canal infection so was wondering if it is this that’s causing the problem. Unsure how to proceed now with getting this sorted, or could it be something else that’s making my tooth hurt? Maybe there is nothing that can be done and I’ll have to put up with this pain forever. Been using the proper tooth paste for the problem and that’s helping a bit but hoping there is something a dentist can do to help me.

Only one tooth feels sensitive

Hello,
Thank you for your post.
The type of sensitivity could certainly be caused by a root canal infection within the tooth. However, there could be other reasons too. These could include enamel damage, receding gums, or exposure of the dentine layer due to products that have come into contact with the tooth (although the last one would most likely cause more teeth to feel this way). Without an examination we can only speculate as to the cause of this sensitivity, and there could be other reasons too that a dentist would need to explore. It would be best if you booked in to see your dentist as soon as you can. There are treatments for most sensitivity issues that can be administered. However, if the problem is due to enamel damage then this is harder to treat as the enamel cannot be repaired. If you are suffering from a root infection the only thing that can remove this is a root canal treatment. Once this has been performed you should find that the sensitivity subsides. Do not delay in booking an appointment. Best of luck to you.
