This needle fear is ruining my life. Even when I am not due to have a needle I am still worrying about what happens if I suddenly need one. How will I cope. This is been with me for too long and I know most people dont like needles but I am terrified. I wish to be in a frame of mind where I could at least tolerate it instead of making me ill even when I don’t need one. I think I need some help before this impacts on my life any further. Is there anything my surgery can do to help me? Thank you.

Hello,
Thank you for your post.
Having a fear of needles can understandably impact on your life quite drastically. Therefore, well done for wanting to tackle this fear and make a change. I would say that your dental clinic and GP’s surgery could make joint efforts to help you with this issue. Your GP can help with referrals to counselling or therapy services if you think this might help, and your dental clinic can help with things such as hypnotherapy, sedation options, and painless injections. Many people do overcome such difficulties with the right help and support. The painless injection system is a piece of equipment that some clinics have that delivers anaesthetic using a stream of numbing agent rather than using the traditional method of a needle and syringe. I would advise that this is something you could explore. Some clinics do offer this option for free as well. Best of luck to you.
