Hello,
Thank you for your post.
There are many reasons why you may have developed a fear or phobia of the drill. Even if you cannot remember anything specific there is likely to have been a trigger at some point. That aside though I can also reassure you that it is fairly common. You are certainly not alone in this fear. What most people do to tackle this issue is to opt for a dental sedation at visits where they know they will need their tooth drilled. It is important that you tell your dentist about this fear before it gets to the point where you start avoiding going all together. There is absolutely no way your dentist will judge you for this. I can confidently say they will have seen and dealt with this type of thing before or will at least have learned about it during training. Therefore, they will know strategies on how to help you with it. Once you have told them they can discuss sedation options with you and any other things they know can help. Best of luck to you.

I am embarraseedd about this
I am very upset and worried about a problem that I have with the dentist. The issue is that I am very scared of that drill that they put in the mouth. Just sound of it makes me want to run and hide. I know that this is a irrational fear but still I cant get over it. I have felt like this for the last few times ive been, each time gets worse but I daren’t tell my dentist in case he thinks I am strange or that I am going to get on his nerves. Why wold I feel so scared about such a silly thing. It not like anything bad happened with it.
