I don’t have the money for teeth whitening at the dentist so the only thing I can really afford to pay for is something I can get from a shop like toothpaste to whiten teeth. Is there any way that this is going to give me whiter teeth? What if I use it every day like three times a day? My teeth are not really dark they are just a bit yellower than I would like them to be. I want to have whiter teeth but what are my options if I cant pay for it.

Hello,
Thanks for your post.
There are lots of different types of toothpaste on the market that claim to whiten your teeth and whilst they may be effective with superficial staining that occurs right after meal times but they are not going to make a difference to very bad staining that might have been caused by smoking or drinking liquids that are very dark in colour – such as red wine. Similarly, if your teeth have been stained for some time or the stains continue to build up over a long period of time it will be quite difficult to remove them using a toothpaste product. This is because toothpastes attempt to scrub away stains, whereas tooth whitening at a dental clinic includes the use of peroxide to bleach away stains and make the teeth whiter. You might see a slight improvement if you use whitening toothpaste but if you really want to have whiter teeth you need to invest in a professional whitening treatment to break the stains down more effectively and see a real difference in the enamel shade.
