Seen countless clips on charcoal whitening for teeth and thought I might ask you guys about it before going ahead. There are different types of charcoal products, some really cheap and others a bit more pricey. First of all do they work? And secondly, would it be wise to go for the dearer version to ensure that I am getting a good product that will be effective and ok to use on my teeth. I have spent many years looking after my teeth and I am not in the habit of doing things to mess that up. What is your honest opinion on charcoal teeth whitening please?

Hello,
Thank you for your post.
There have been many interesting articles emerging recently in the media about over the counter whitening products, charcoal whitening in particular. The findings suggest that charcoal does not have any whitening effect on the teeth, and some products could actually cause damage to your pearly whites. With this in mind, I would advise you to think twice about purchasing any type of charcoal whitening product and instead consider having the treatment performed at a professional clinic. Whitening carried out by trained dentists is highly effective and you can be sure that your teeth are being looked after to the highest standard. Clinics will not use substandard products, nor will they perform whitening procedures on anyone who they believe will not respond to the treatment in the correct way. It is entirely your choice but the advice I would give is to go professional. Best of luck to you.
